The American models were powered by either a 3.0 L Turbo Diesel (CDI) engine or a 3.5 L gasoline engine teamed with either a 6-speed manual NSG370 or a 5-speed automatic NAG1 transmission. The 3.5 L gas engine was discontinued in 2009. Since 2010, the Sprinter has been available under the Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner brand name. The same year, U.S. Sprinter drivers got an opportunity to enjoy all the benefits of the Bluetec emissions system. In 2013, the Sprinter was upgraded to give drivers the vehicle that works even harder, while providing them with more assistance and comfort at the wheel. It received a number of new assistance systems like adaptive highbeam, crosswind stabilization, lane departure warning system, just to name a few.

We have a 2015 MB Sprinter van and Carr appeared to be the only supplier of steps for that vehicle. The parts kit and assembly instructions that came with the hoop step claim to cover a multitude of vehicles, specifically including the Sprinter. But it appears that the Carr engineers do not know how the Sprinter is designed as the assembly instructions do not well-represent the Sprinter.
A creative person can still use the kit for the Sprinter but only after a lot of head-scratching and only in a different way than instructed. Given the need for work-arounds, compromises were inevitable. The underside of the step has only 6 in. Of ground clearance. Perhaps more importantly, the step does not halve the previously very high step needed to get into the Sprinter. The step is still useful, however, for stepping up into the Sprinter.
Unfortunately, although I mounted it as far outboard as physically possible, the step does not protrude far enough outboard to be easily used when stepping down from the Sprinter. Lastly, given the compromise mounting, the step's mounting brackets flex measurably when one puts a 150 lb. Person onto the step. All in all we plan to use the step this spring and summer and I am confident that it will be an improvement over using the van with no step at all. It is possible that this step as-is is excellent for other vehicles, but it appears that a custom manufactured step is needed to get the best step performance on a Sprinter.
